It all starts when my Shimano reel begins to spin and the line takes off. It ends with a colorful image pulled from the fish itself.

After the excitement of seeing what surfaces on my line, I begin the process of preparing the fish. The scales and fins are made ready to accept the color. I ink the fish, being careful to highlight the best features of the individual fish.

I transfer the unique fish image to specialty art paper or canvas, then enhance it with handmade pastels, watercolor, ink, or acrylic paint. Some images are true representations of the fish, others are colorful renderings. The finished piece is accompanied by an identification of the fish and the place it was pulled from the water.
River Road Studio

My art is based on an ancient Japanese technique called Gyotaku: gyo meaning fish, taku meaning rubbing.

I seek to celebrate the ordinary to confirm how extraordinary we all are. My love of the Southeast Texas/Southwest Louisiana area is evident in my unique images.
