I work a bit of River water into each image as an homage to our generous Calcasieu River, who has shared her bountiful gifts with generations of Louisiana Families. |
My art is based on an ancient technique called Gyotaku. Gyo means Fish. Taku means Rubbing. While the classic Gyotaku images are simple, minimalist images, my finished pieces are highly seasoned works that break from the traditional to reflect my relationship with my Texas/Louisiana lifestyle, culture and environment. |
"A Redfish, caught in the Calcasieu River near the Salt Water Barrier, was printed to become Across the Universe. On that cold, starry night our dark River was streaked silver with Shad. So many that the Reds were picky and preferred those mercurial minnows over our rattletraps. No matter, in the end we were one Redfish and one million silver bits richer." |
